Euwe & Sybolt de Jong
Bätz - Witte organ, Oude Kerk, Delft
The brothers Euwe, and Sybolt de Jong, have performed organ duets together since they were students at the Conservatory of Groningen. Now their partnership is increasingly in demand.
REPERTOIRE
The brothers’ extensive repertoire includes organ works for four hands (and feet!) dating from the Renaissance period, right up until the present day. If compared to the extensive repertoire for piano duet, the existing literature for organ duet is, unfortunately, rather limited. Sybolt and Euwe de Jong have taken it upon themselves, therefore, to increase the repertoire in a number of different ways, including:
- commissioning new works by living composers
- arranging movements from cantatas by J.S. Bach for organ duet
- composing new works
- undertaking research in various European libraries in order to source undiscovered organ duet literature.
EDITIONS
Boeijenga Music Publications, Veenhuizen, The Netherlands have published a number of new compositions by the de Jong brothers, and arrangements of Bach cantata movements.
RECORDINGS
In 2006 the first CD was released in a series of recordings dedicated to Sybolt de Jong’s arrangements for organ duet of movements from cantatas by J.S. Bach. This was recorded on the Hinsz organ of the Martinikerk, Bolsward, and has been followed by a second volume, recorded on the Müller organ of the Grote of Jacobijnerkerk, Leeuwarden.
The series will go on to include six CDs featuring a wide range of cantata movements and organs. The project team consists, in fact, of four people; as well as the two organists, there are the recording engineer Jack Westra (Westra Media), and the technical/musical advisor and recording producer Jelle Stellingwerf.
